QuizTavern is run by Odd Little Games, a sole trader. By visiting quiztavern.com, playing a quiz, or creating an account, you agree to these terms and to our privacy policy. If you don't agree with them, please don't use the site.

You must be at least 13 to use QuizTavern. If you're under 18, use it with a parent or guardian's knowledge.

You can play today's quiz without an account. To keep your results and appear on the league table, you'll need an account with an email address you can receive mail at, and you'll need to verify it. Please:

• have one account only, in your own name or handle;
• keep your password to yourself — you're responsible for what happens on your account;
• use a real, working email address (we may refuse disposable ones).

Everyone gets the same questions each day, and the day's league table resets at 00:00 UTC. Each question has a time limit. Your time and your score are measured by our servers, not by your device — the clock on your screen is a guide, and it's our servers' record that counts.

We check our questions carefully, but a wrong one occasionally gets through. If you think a question or its answer is wrong, report it. If a question turns out to be wrong, we may correct it, remove it, or adjust scores, ratings and league tables to put things right.

When you play, please don't:

• use more than one account, or play on someone else's;
• use bots, scripts, or anyone or anything else to answer for you;
• look answers up while a question is open;
• post or share a day's answers before that day's quiz has closed;
• try to interfere with the site, its timing, or its scoring.

We run automated checks for unusual patterns of play. A check only ever flags something for a person to look at; it doesn't take action on its own. If we find that someone has broken these rules, we may remove their results, reset their rating, keep them off public league tables, or close their account.

If you build a quiz in the snug, you're responsible for the questions, answers, and names you put in it. Don't include anything unlawful, hateful, harassing, sexually explicit, or that infringes someone else's rights.

Anyone with a quiz's invite link can join it, with or without an account, so share it only with people you want to play. The names players choose are visible to everyone else in that quiz.

We may remove a quiz, or a player from it, if it breaks these terms.

Once your email is verified, your display name, avatar, rating, and league-table positions can be seen by anyone on the league tables and your player profile. Choose a name and avatar that aren't offensive and don't pretend to be somebody else. We may change or remove ones that are.

You keep ownership of what you add — your avatar, the quizzes you write, and the notes on reports you send. You give us permission to store and show it on QuizTavern, as far as we need to run the site. When you report a question, we may use your report to fix or retire that question.

The QuizTavern name, logo, fox mascot, design, code, and question bank belong to us or our licensors. You can use QuizTavern for your own enjoyment. You may not copy or scrape the questions, or reuse them or the site commercially, without asking first.

Please do share your result cards, screenshots, and streams or videos of you playing.

Some question images come from Wikimedia Commons and are used under their own licences. Their creators are credited alongside the image.

QuizTavern is free to play, with no ads anywhere. It's paid for by the regulars who support it on Patreon.

Supporter features are conveniences and extras only. Supporting never affects scoring, which questions you can play, or your place on any league table. If your pledge ends, you keep everything you've already made, but the supporter features stop until you pledge again.

Pledges are made through Patreon and governed by Patreon's own terms. We never see your card details. For refunds or billing questions, follow Patreon's process — we'll help where we can. Supporting is voluntary. It doesn't give you ownership of anything, or a guarantee that a particular feature will be built.

QuizTavern links to services we don't control, including Patreon, our Discord community, and Wikimedia Commons. We're not responsible for their content or how they work. Your use of them is governed by their own terms and privacy policies.

We don't use an outside analytics company: visits are counted by our own self-hosted Matomo server. Our privacy policy explains how.

We put a lot of care into QuizTavern, but we provide it "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, as far as the law allows. We don't promise the site will always be available or free of errors, or that every question is correct — it's a quiz, not a reference work. Nothing here takes away rights you have under consumer law.

As far as the law allows, we're not liable for indirect or consequential losses, lost data, or lost scores, streaks, or ratings that come from using QuizTavern. Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law doesn't allow us to limit.

We may change, pause, or retire features. We may also suspend or close accounts that break these terms. You can delete your account at any time from your settings.

We may update these terms. When we do, we'll change the effective date at the top, and if you keep using QuizTavern, you're accepting the new version. We'll try to flag significant changes on the site or in our Discord.

These terms are governed by the laws of England & Wales, and any disputes will be handled by its courts. If you're a consumer, you may also have the right to bring a claim in the courts of the country where you live.
